There are few things quite as satisfying as removing the clutter from your desk. It's a great way to procrastinate from doing actual work; it results in immediate gratification; and, occasionallyamong the leftover takeout containersyou'll find an important paper that you thought was already relegated to the waste bin of history.
So reading Lifehacker's Top 10 DIY office projectsalmost all of which are focused on declutteringis particularly inspiring. The projects range from the not-particularly-complicated (organize your networking gear into plastic letter trays) to the slightly-more-complicated (mount your power strip to the underside of your desk) to the nice-but-not-not-bloody-likely (attach all of your external drives, networking gear, etc to a pegboard under your desk).
And the best part is that you can always re-mess up your desk and then get the satisfaction of organizing it once more.
