Franken Soars Ahead In Minnesota Senate Recount

The recount in the race to fill the last seat in the U.S. Senate took a noteworthy turn on Friday as Democrat Al Franken held onto a lead over Republican Norm Coleman for the first time.

As Minnesota's canvassing board continued its review of over 1,300 disputed ballots, Franken's lead grew to 252 votes, The Politico reports.

While it's not exactly a comfortable margin for Franken, it does mark a significant swing, since he trailed Coleman on Election night by 215 votes.

The race likely won't be decided any time soon, since there are more absentee ballots still to be decided, and pending litigation is likely to hold up the process even longer.
