Handful Of Candidates Spent Campaign Money On Clothes

Earlier this election season, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed a complaint against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for spending some $150,000 of campaign money on clothes for herself and for her family in violation of campaign laws.

Since then, it has gone in search of more shoppers swiping the campaign credit card. It came up with a few, and has now filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission.

Citing FEC reports, CREW accused Reps. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) and Rob Andrews (D-N.J.), Utah congressional candidate Bill Dew (R), North Carolina congressional candidate William Breazeale (R), and Andrew MacPherson, a campaign staffer for Bob Barr‘s 2008 presidential campaign committee, of spending campaign money on clothes. (Sanchez has found herself in Politico in the past for spending campaign money on "hair and makeup service.")

None, however, came anywhere near $150,000. The release after the jump...
