Here’s a source to try for transition leaks: Wikipedia.
Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk’s page on the online encyclopedia declares in its first paragraph that he is a “leading contender” to be named U.S. Trade Representative or Transportation secretary.
It’s not just on the Web, though. Kirk’s name has bubbled up in the business community for USTR since yesterday, when President-elect Barack Obama’s first choice, California Rep. Xavier Becerra, officially turned down the job.
Dan Tarullo, a top economic adviser to Obama’s transition, and Lael Brainard, a scholar at the Brookings Institute, have also reemerged as contenders. They topped many lists in the trade world before Becerra emerged. Both are technocrats who worked in the Clinton administration.
