Lightning Suspend Sykora

The Tampa Bay Lightning suspended defenseman Michal Sykora indefinitely without pay Tuesday for failing to report to a minor-league assignment.

Sykora, who has one goal and 10 assists for the Lightning this season, was assigned to Cleveland of the International Hockey League on Nov. 14. The Lightning acquired the 25-year-old from the Chicago Blackhawks last summer for goaltender Mark Fitzpatrick and a 1999 fourth-round pick.

Forum: Is the suspension justified?

Sykora has amassed 10 goals and 51 assists over six seasons. Originally selected in the sixth round of the 1992 draft by the San Jose Sharks, Sykora was traded to the Blackhawks in January 1997 with Ulf Dahlen and goalie Chris Terreri for for goaltender Ed Belfour.

The Lightning have struggled of late, losing three in a row while being outscored, 22-4.
