Voting for "Early Show" weather anchor Dave Price's departure point in his "No Way Home" journey -- which begins Friday -- was a real nail-biter in the eleventh hour.
With viewer voting -- both online and via mobile phone -- ending at noon Eastern Standrd Time on Wednesday, Anchorage, Alaska was ahead of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Oregon by a mere two percentage points -- 41-to-39 percent, when online and mobile phone ballots were combined. Those results were as of 8:30 a.m. New York time on Wednesday for online voting and the end of the day Tuesday for mobile phone voting.
And the gap was still narrowing.
The big question was -- could Oregon catch up in the short time still available?
Dave will begin his weeklong trek with only a one-way ticket, $50, some technical devices (including a Windows Phone provided by Microsoft to record his travels) and his wits and wisdom to get him back home to New York. He'll be depending in large part on the kindness of strangers.
"The Early Show" was leaving it up to viewers to decide the place from which they'd like to see him set out.
