(CBS News) Prince William took on some of his grandmother's duties Thursday as he hosted his first investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The prince handed out awards to recognize the achievements of people in the United Kingdom.
William presented Wimbledon champion Andy Murray with a medal from the Order of the British Empire (OBE). However, the tennis star almost missed his big moment. He tweeted to his followers that he thought he was running behind.
The BBC reports that Prince William also presented "Vicar of Dibley" producer Jon Plowman with an OBE.
Williamearlier this year and is transitioning into his role as a full-time royal. The ceremony is the highest-profile royal duty the Duke of Cambridge has conducted to date.
Some royal watchers see this as a sign that the aging Queen Elizabeth II is reducing her number of appearances and attempting to increase the profile of William and his father, Prince Charles.
