Solis Edges Toward Official Announcement

With Xavier Becerra still squatting the Democratic caucus vice chair position -- the number six position in leadership -- aspirants are edging closer and closer to announcing official runs for the spot. The job will open up if he becomes U.S. Trade Representative. He recently met with President-elect Obama to discuss the position, a Becerra aide told The Crypt.

Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.), in a statement to The Crypt, is focusing on maintaining diversity in leadership. She said that "[s]hould Congressman Xavier Becerra elect to leave Congress for another position, I believe it is critical that the leadership of the Democratic Party in the U.S. House of Representatives continue to reflect our nation's great diversity."

Solis argues that "[g]iven the record number of Latinos who voted this past November throughout the country, it is imperative that Latinos are represented at all levels of government including in the Democratic leadership." 

The Crypt has a good guess as to which member of Congress she thinks would do a good job in leadership representing those Latinos.
