(CBS/AP) PORTLAND, Ore. - Airport authorities arrested 69-year-old Soren Johnson after they said they saw him trying to hide his gun in a planter box at an Oregon airport.

Johnson was reportedly arrested last month for investigation of reckless endangering.

Transportation Security Administration employees said Johnson was told he couldn't carry his loaded weapon through a security checkpoint and that he should put it in his luggage instead. He allegedly disregarded their advice and dropped the .22-caliber pistol in an airport planter box on June 24.

Police recovered the gun, Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson said. Police said Johnson told them he hid the gun so he could retrieve it when he returned from his trip.
