Tribal Treasure

Jean Fritts of Sotheby's in New York inspects a Maori carving on display in Sydney, Australia.

The four-foot and two inches post figure was carved by a member of the Kahungunu tribe from Hawkes Bay on New Zealand's North Island. The sculpture, circa 1840, once took center place in a meeting house.

The carving is expected to fetch more than $1 million at an auction in New York, this month.
