As Teri Hatcher explains it, "Burnt Toast," the title of her book, refers to a certain attitude: "I think that women, mothers especially, we take care of everybody else first before ourselves, and, I think, in a very self-sacrificing way, but also in a way that's damaging. We don't 'role model' that we are important enough to take care of ourselves, too."

How to incorporate your child into doing things that make you feel a little bit better instead of always servicing them. How everybody sort of ends up better in the end because of it."
